Wall Art With Hot Melt Glue

There are numerous ways to use hot glue such as fixing a broken item, writing, decorating, but creating something from nothing is our favorite. After coming up with multiple uses for glue, we were inspired to find a way to combine a few to make something that would stand out. What better way to make a project pop than 3D wall art. So we grabbed our lucky glue creations to give St. Patrick’s Day a little pop!

What you need:

  • White canvas (old or new- we used an old one)
  • Medium green acrylic paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Water
  • Phrase out of hot glue (we used “feelin’ lucky”)
  • Hot glue shamrocks
  • Green glue sticks
  • Surebonder Detail glue gun

We love to work with acrylic paint because you can paint over any previous images or fix any mistakes with ease. With this project we just painted over a canvas that already had a drawing on it. The beauty of crafting is the ability to re-purpose items like this. However, remember when you are working with acrylic paint, to wear clothes that you are not fond of or an apron as this particular type of paint does not come out.

When covering up our previous drawing on the canvas you most likely will need to paint multiple layers to create a new canvas to work with. For this project we choose a light to medium green and applied two layers. For a smooth surface, be sure to paint either vertically or horizontally but not both. Allow the paint to dry before applying your hot glue accessories.

Now that we have our blank but green canvas we can apply our hot glue creations! Lay out your hot glue words on your canvas how you would like them to appear then arrange your hot glue shamrocks around them. Once you have your design laid out take small amounts of glue on the back of the words and lightly but firmly press on the canvas. When gluing the shamrocks be sure to add a larger amount of glue. These will be heavier pieces and will require more glue to hold them in place when you hang up your wall art.
